Dobson Lasermax IV

High-end Dobsonian Telescope System

The Lasermax IV is a high-end Dobsonian telescope system, designed for serious deep-sky and planetary observation and built from structural aluminum and carbon, with CNC-machined components throughout. Every part of its structure has been re-engineered to be stiffer, lighter, and faster to set up under a real sky.
Unlike commercial mass-market scopes, no two units are ever the same: each one is assembled with laser-cut precision and tuned by hand, ensuring mechanical stability and accurate optical alignment that hold from the horizon to the zenith. Rigidity, balance, field-ready transport — engineered without compromise.

Take a look

Nothing here is hidden. Every line, every joint, every gram of carbon is left in plain sight — because on the Lasermax IV, the engineering is the design. Look closer and you’ll see laser-cut precision, exposed carbon, and a finish built to hold up night after night — under a real sky, exactly where it belongs.

The heart of the Lasermax IV

Built in Italy, designed for the stars. Every motion is intentional – precision-crafted, field-ready, and made to perform under real sky.

Mechanical Design

Built from laser-cut structural aluminum, the Lasermax IV structure is designed to minimize mechanical stress and thermal deformation — holding its shape even under large mirrors and across wide temperature swings in the field. Key load-bearing joints are reinforced with stainless steel, and every connection is engineered for a rigid, repeatable fit that keeps the optical train aligned through a full night of observing. The shorter structural struts — on the secondary cage and rocker box — are now made entirely from carbon fiber, replacing aluminum across the board. The result is faster vibration damping, lower weight, and a structure that settles in under a second after every touch.

Available Options

Every Lasermax is built to perform. But it can also carry a signature that makes it yours.

From laser-etched design accents to discreet engraved nameplates, we offer refined details for those who value uniqueness — without compromise.

Bearings & Support System

The Lasermax motion system is built on SKF 316 stainless steel bearings — marine-grade, corrosion-resistant, and trusted in advanced engineering environments.

Their exceptional load capacity ensures flawless, fluid motion across both azimuth and altitude axes.

Stainless Steel Components

All fasteners and bolts are made from marine-grade stainless steel (AISI 316), chosen for its corrosion resistance and long-term durability.

Critical connection points feature stainless steel ball joints — ensuring reliable movement and mechanical integrity.

Aluminum Components

Every aluminum part of the Lasermax IV — from the cage rings to the anodized ring spacers and the rocker-box panels — is CNC-machined from structural aluminum for a precise, repeatable fit and lasting structural consistency. Each surface is anodized for protection against wear and weather, and finished to a seamless visual match across the whole system — strength you can rely on, with a look that stays clean season after season.

Available Options

Carbon fiber telescope tube with textured weave pattern against starfield background.
The structural struts already come in carbon as standard. This upgrade takes it further, replacing the long aluminum truss tubes with full carbon fiber for the stiffest, most thermally stable structure we offer. The payoff is ultra-fast vibration damping and rock-steady tracking even in wind — the go-to choice for demanding visual observers and serious imagers chasing absolute precision.

Spacers are also available in a selection of anodized finishes — including black, blue, light blue, gold, red and silver — for a custom aesthetic that matches your personal setup. Do you need a different color? Ask us.

Motion Integrity

Every axis, every surface, every joint — engineered for motion that feels seamless and stays locked when it matters.

The result is a structure that moves as one — and holds its precision under pressure.

Design Philosophy

Every structural element in the Lasermax is the result of targeted engineering — optimized for weight, rigidity, and field performance.

No decorative mass, no unnecessary materials: just pure structural function, refined through experience and precision design.

Assembly System

Structural tubes are pre-coupled in matched pairs to simplify setup and eliminate alignment guesswork.

Each tube features stainless steel ball terminals that lock into precision-fit sockets using custom snap levers.

No tools required. Full assembly takes 2 to 5 minutes — even in field conditions.

Secondary Cage

The upper structure is built around a dual-ring aluminum cage, engineered for rigidity and weight balance.

Designed to house the secondary mirror and spider, it ensures perfect alignment and mechanical stability — even in demanding configurations.

Available Options

Doc Telescope Dobson Lasermax III mirror cell with black framework viewed against blue sky.
For users who demand enhanced structural stiffness, the secondary cage is available with a triple-ring configuration.

This design offers greater rigidity and a more refined visual presence — especially appreciated in imaging setups and by those who value every structural detail.

Spider & Mirror Cell

Secondary mirror support (spider) made from 316 stainless steel, optionally unpainted for industrial look. The primary mirror is mounted in a custom stainless steel flotation cell with a PLOP-optimized 18-point sandwich system, ensuring consistent axial support across the full surface.

Available Options

Borrowed directly from our astrographs, the Spider Pro is a more evolved secondary-mirror support for observers who never want to think about collimation again. It adds a dedicated collimation lock: set your alignment once and lock it in place, and it holds through transport, temperature swings, and a full night under the sky. The choice for imagers and perfectionists who want their stars pinpoint from the first frame to the last.

Available on request for high-resolution imaging.

Leaving the stainless steel spider unpainted reduces light diffraction — delivering cleaner stellar profiles and smaller Airy disks.

A subtle but measurable gain for astrophotographers.

RockerBox

At the heart of the instrument, the rocker box carries the primary mirror and anchors the altitude bearings, giving the Lasermax IV its smooth, stable vertical motion from the horizon to the zenith.
Both the rocker box and the ground board now use a single-layer construction, a new mechanical solution that removes the traditional sandwich panel while increasing rigidity rather than reducing it. Fewer parts, a cleaner load path, and a base that stays dead-solid under tracking.
Combined with the all-carbon struts, this redesign sheds nearly 10% of the structure’s weight – lighter to carry and to set up, with rigidity that improves, not drops. Precision begins at the base.

Altitude Bearings

The signature altitude bearings are machined for precision motion and rock-solid support.

Connected to the rocker box via an anti-vibration bracing system, they ensure stability even under large mirrors and during extended observing sessions.

Designed as part of a cohesive structure — built to move, without shifting.

Available Options

Two curved metal bearing rings with holes and silver studs against a starry night sky.
For advanced portability, the altitude bearings can be made fully removable from the rocker box.

This custom configuration is designed for users with space constraints – from air travel to compact car transport.

A solution for those who refuse to compromise, even on the road.

Coolfan

A high-performance axial fan accelerates mirror cooldown, stabilizing image quality in under 90 minutes.

Essential for deep-sky observing and planetary imaging, it equalizes the mirror’s temperature with the outside air — eliminating thermal distortion and improving contrast.
